Camp Joy strives to improve and expand services in order to meet our programming needs and give all of our campers the best experience possible. Thanks to our generous sponsors and donors, our current initiatives will broaden arts programming for all of our campers. The arts initiatives will offer more campers new and creative arts activities to explore personal healing, self expression, and healthy living choices. Learn more about our Arts Initiative…
In addition to the arts initiatives, Camp Joy is raising funds to increase capacity and elevate the experiences of groups we serve. This initiative will provide updates and repairs to housing and meeting spaces used by our adult, young adult, family, and medically focused programs. “Introducing more expressive arts activities for the campers would significantly enhance the camp experience and the youth would benefit greatly from these improvements.” —Karen Martin, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital,Cancer & Blood Institute
The renovation and expansion of the Scripps Howard Creative Arts Center means more children with medical challenges and from low-income backgrounds will participate in arts programming. And more expressive and creative arts program options will be available to complement outdoor activities.
The original Creative Arts Center (only 600 sq. ft.) was expanded with a 2,000+ Sq. ft. addition which included accessibility improvements, restrooms, and a covered porch. The initiative also includes investments in new expressive and creative arts equipment. And contributions to the Camp Joy Endowment Fund will target sustained arts programming.
Expanded activities will include:
- Art therapy for campers in foster care
- Adaptive music programs for campers with medical challenges
- Enhanced expressive arts programming (ex: dance, drama, music…)
- Culinary arts with healthy cooking activities
- More elaborate creative/visual arts activities
(painting, drawing, claywork…)
