Words can’t describe what this summer has meant to me,
Definitely more than most would believe.
From all the highs to lows and everything in between,
I’ll give a little insight to everything I’ve seen.
Staff training was something I will never forget,
There were so many incredible and genuine people I met.
I learned how to live judgement free,
And was loved by people for just being me.
Week one was the toughest of all,
And made me question if I could stay for the long haul.
But this was the week I realized the importance of this job,
And shared in some moments that made my heart throb.
Week two I discovered the “Camp Joy Magic”
Just hearing “Lost Boy” makes me feel nostalgic.
Within our candle chats we got very close,
It was neat to see how throughout the week, everyone grows.
Week three had some crazy times,
Including the tornado warning- a big fear of mine.
We stood in the dungeon during the wee hours of the night
But sang some camp songs as if it were daylight.
Week 4 I learned how to love- regardless of the condition of your heart,
And swam across the pond without falling apart.
I was covered head to toe in shaving cream,
And definitely lived the “Camp Joy dream.”
Week 5 I worked with the smallest campers,
And was challenged to change my standards.
I held more hands and wiped away more tears,
I hope to see them back over the next few years.
Week 6 was a change-up for me,
I worked alongside the CITs.
We focused on leadership skills,
And climbed up some personal hills.
Week 7 was one of the best,
Even though we didn’t get much rest.
I was welcomed into a giant family,
And our cabin cliqued very naturally.
Week 8 I cried alongside my whole cabin,
I can’t help but think back and grin.
Those girls changed me forever,
They definitely changed me for the better.
Week 9 was my final week,
My summer ended on a giant peak.
I was reminded of why I decided to work here,
And why I will come back next year.
This summer consisted of 10 weeks of life-long memories,
77 campers who have overcome so many adversities,
Countless hours of campfires, games, and play,
And moments that took my breath away.
Thank you Camp Joy!
