Camp Joy strives to continually improve and expand services through various initiatives in order to meet our programming needs while giving our campers the best experience possible.
Arts Initiative Complete – Thank You, Donors!
Thanks to our generous sponsors and donors, the Arts Initiative raised over $400,000 broadening arts
programming for all of our campers. Campers are now offered more new and creative arts activities to explore personal healing, self-expression, and healthy living choices.
“Introducing more expressive arts activities for the campers would significantly enhance the camp experience and the youth would benefit greatly from these improvements.” —Karen Martin, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Cancer & Blood Institute
With a lead gift from the Scripps Howard Foundation Camp Joy was able to renovate and expand the Scripps Howard Creative Arts Center. The expansion has resulted in more children with medical challenges and from low-income backgrounds ability to participate in arts programming. Through this initiative more expressive and creative arts program options will be available to complement outdoor activities.
The original Creative Arts Center (only 600 sq. ft.) was expanded with a 2,000+ sq. ft. addition, dedicated in June 2016, which included accessibility improvements, restrooms, and a covered porch. The initiative also includes investments in new expressive and creative arts equipment. One component of this campaign included funding for the endowment which will be used to target sustained arts programming.
Expanded Activities Include:
Adaptive music programs for campers with medical challenges
Enhanced expressive arts programming (ex: dance, drama, music)
Culinary arts with healthy cooking activities
More elaborate creative/visual arts activities (painting, drawing, clay work)
