Sometimes it’s the little things that remind me of why I love it here so much. The other day we had a parking lot full of cars, and two more groups set to arrive with pretty much nowhere to park. We sent out a call to everyone on staff to please move their cars at their earliest convenience to the back so we could make more room. Maybe I am a little overly emotional these days, being 9 months pregnant and all, but it truly moved me to see staff members pouring out of their offices, keys in hand only moments after the call went out. It wasn’t a particularly sunny or warm day but folks were more than willing to stop everything they were doing to drive their cars out to a field and walk back in order to make our guests visit just a little easier. This may seem minimal and even a little silly, yet I continue to be moved by the things the Joy staff does to help each other out. Like Patty re-making beds at the last minute to accommodate our guests. And Weezy stepping in to work an Alpine Tower for one of our groups during his crazy busy season of gearing up for summer camp. And Lisa coming in early and staying late to cover me when I was sick. Whether it goes unnoticed or not, we all step up to help each other out. So, when I get stuck in the day to day, it doesn’t take much to bring me back and remind me why I am here. Even though I am looking forward to having this baby and spending the summer with my family, I will definitely miss coming out here every day and seeing the place and its people come alive with Joy spirit.
