Department: Outdoor School Program (OSP)

Overall Function: Year-round educator position responsible for the development and delivery of high quality, innovative, mission-centered programs through all Joy teams with the primary focus on Outdoor School Programs. Roles with this position include, but are not limited to, teacher, actor, ropes technician, customer service provider and office employee. Activities include, but are not limited to, High Ropes Challenge Courses, Group Initiatives, Natural History/Environmental classes, Cultural History/Living History plays, program support functions as well as traditional summer camp activities. Populations served vary from elementary through college students, underserved youth, and adults.  Hourly employee working a fluctuating forty hours within a seven day work week includes weekend and evening time commitments.

Summary of Responsibilities

  1. Customer Service – Role model aggressively friendly, positive interactions with participants, clients, and co-workers. Respond effectively and efficiently to participants, clients and co-worker needs, by giving and receiving information, weighing into and resolving disagreements and problem solving. Examples of Customer Service responsibilities include overnight on-call, oversee meals, cabin inspection, bus greeting.

Lesson plans built to include 8 intelligences, state standards, sequencing, transference, etc. Innovate and enhance OSP programs for the benefit of the OSP team during Resource time.
  7. Program DeliveryPresent programs and debriefs that are well thought out, transfer between lessons, connect to personal lives, and progress with participant involvement with hands on activities. Students should retain the desired outcomes as observed through different forms of assessment you build into your lesson.
  8. Class ManagementEstablish positive relationships along with age appropriate and clear behavior and safety expectations for every program. Discipline with dignity when appropriate. Create an environment in which participants are engaged and actively participating in activities and discussions.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be able to carry supplies, etc. of at least 50 lbs., be able to work in outdoor environment in all types of weather and walk on uneven terrain.
  • Applicant must be able to work a 7 day flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Applicant must be able to maintain First Aid, CPR, AED certifications. (Joy can provide training)
  • Given appropriate training applicant must be able to meet Association for Challenge Course Technology Level 1 Practitioner standards including but not limited to the following:
    • Recognize inherent risk specific to activities and program areas
    • Effectively supervise and monitor participants at heights of up to 60 feet
    • Efficiently maneuver and assist participants at heights of up to 60 feet

Job Title:  Coordinating Program Manager
Reports to: Program Director
Employment Status:  Full-Time
Pay: Competitive

Overall Function: Manage the Experiential Educators (EEs) to deliver high quality experiential programming for Joy clients. This includes hiring, training, scheduling and developing of EEs to be able to work or assist all departments at Camp Joy. Manage logistics and finalize agendas for upcoming groups. Serve as on-site coordinator primarily for Outdoor School Programs (OSP) groups but assists with all program departments. Present and/or actively participate in work groups and Joy meetings.

Summary of Responsibilities

  1. Culture –Model the Camp Joy Way: a culture of client focus, collaboration, discipline, continuous improvement, creativity and innovation, and accountability focused on Camp Joy’s mission and values.
  2. Customer Service– Develop strong client relationships and go above and beyond to meet client needs. Asure appropriate communication occurs with the clients- program schedules, details and follow ups.
  3. Program Development /Delivery– Manage high-quality experiential programming focused on innovation, client needs, and standards/guidelines. Assist with developing or updating new classes and curriculum annually to meet the needs of clients.
  4. Community Relationships – Represent Camp Joy to the community. Professionally present at teacher meetings, offsite parent meetings, and trainings.
  5. Staff Leadership/Development– Directly supervise the Experiential Educators and adjuncts through Selection, Training, Assessment, and Recognition.
  6. Financial Performance – Assist in overseeing OSP budget focused on margin goals and philanthropic support. Manage the direct program expenses, and staff hours.
  7. Business Operations– Adhere to and enforce all Joy policies, procedures, and deadlines. Communicate effectively with all Joy teams. Be accountable with accurate and timely data, forms and schedules.
  8. Innovation / Continuous Learning – Ensure that the EEs continue to learn, innovate and develop, by focusing on new initiatives to individually grow as well as enhance the organization.
  9. Logistics and Scheduling. – Collaborate with Business Manager to keep the flow of client logistics and details up to date on Camp Brain, line schedules and evening coordinator signups. Work with other managers to schedule Joy’s staffing needs with a month-out view. Schedule with EEs to set the line schedule 2 weeks out. Assist Business Manager and Sales Manager with the sales/rebooking process.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to carry supplies, etc. of at least 25 lbs., be able to work in an outdoor environment in all types of weather and walk on uneven surfaces.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 15 years old (or minimum lifeguard certification provider requirement)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe, clean and fun swimming pool environment, including pool, grounds around the pool, equipment, and the shower house.
  • Maintain safe and appropriate pond activity environment (ex. boating)
  • Supervise swimmers and boaters in camp aquatic environments
  • Maintain open lines of communication and training with all staff concerning their roles (ex. Extra Eyes) at the pool.
  • Supervise the swim tests and maintain appropriate documents.
  • Conduct regular equipment safety inspections and complete necessary documentation and reporting of hazards
  • Coordinate with the Aquatics Lead in the upkeep of the pool – maintain chemical levels, clean the pool once/twice a week (vacuum and scrub algae), communicate irregularities.
  • Lifeguard all pool programs according to the policy and ACA ratios.
  • Manage equipment inventory and report needed items to the Camp Director.
  • Participate in all staff meetings as needed.

Job Title: Program Manager

Department: Camps (Client Engagement Team)

Overall Function: Build and maintain strong, long-lasting, mutually beneficial, value-added client relationships. Take primary role in rebooking Camps groups and assists with all program departments with the booking process. Assist in managing Camp staff to deliver high quality experiential and recreational programming for Joy clients and campers. Serve as on-site manager primarily for Camp’s groups but assists with all program departments. Present and/or actively participate in work groups and Joy meetings, prepared with accurate logistics and data.

Summary of Responsibilities

  1. Client Relationship: Develop strong client relationships by exceeding client expectations, serve as the point of contact for all client account management matters; market and sell experience-based programs to existing clients and potential clients; generate service agreements, program delivery acknowledgements, risk form/registrations, etc., for new and existing clients.
  2. Program Logistics/Support: Input program details into Camp Brain and check for accuracy, update pre-program spreadsheet to ensure whole team knows of changes or updates. Serve as principal liaison between the Camp’s Team, Guest Services team, Operations team, etc., to ensure program details and changes are communicated in a timely, accurate, and professional manner; communicate with other Camp Joy programs to avoid conflict between various programs and assist with room setup, getting supplies and materials for groups. Gather and distribute clients’ medical and dietary details as necessary. Work as a member of the program delivery team, as needed.
  3. Department Administration: Attend various types of meetings and complete assigned tasks; clearly communicate progress of weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual initiatives to Director of Programs.
  4. Customer Service: Assist in greeting client groups on the day of program, serving as host during mealtimes, and help guests settle into overnight accommodations.
  5. Business Operations: Track signed Service Agreements and Program Delivery Acknowledgments; communicate effectively with all Camp Joy teams; and efficiently conduct internal processes including but not limited to; program pricing, and writing proposals, as well as communicating information internally through scheduling software and email.
  6. Financial Performance: Assist in overseeing Camp’s budget focused on margin goals and philanthropic support. Collaborate with the Sales team and Director of Programs to meet Camp’s revenue goals and other teams to achieve overall Joy financial goals. Co-manage the direct program expenses (staff hours, program supplies, STAR…).

  1. Staff Leadership/Development: Directly supervise camp staff through Selection, Training, Assessment, and Recognition (STAR). Create the disseminate the weekly/weekend schedules to staff, including activity schedules, meal sign-ups, time-off, and other necessary paperwork. Manage and approve Paycor requests. Observe programming to be able to accurately fill out performance reviews. Take point on discipline as needed.
  2. Program Support: Connect with clients about desired outcomes and finalize agendas for staff and clients. Provide program delivery staff with program details that impact their ability to deliver a high-quality program in a timely manner. Communicate program changes internally and externally. Serve as principal liaison between clients and Camp Joy program delivery team. Greet client groups the day of program, serve as host during stay with regular check-ins.   • Oversee an overall high-quality, intentional camp experiences for campers and staff by supporting needs to the best of your ability.
  • Finalize and disseminate the weekly camp schedules and cabin assignments. Drafts are reviewed with the Camps Program Manager and Camps Director 2-3 weeks prior to program start. Final schedules and all program write-ups are approved no later than one week to program start. This includes zone schedules/flow, meal details, and other logistical info as it is prepared.
  • Update Camp Brain as you prepare each program. Collaborate with the Camps Program Manager, other camp coordinators and other Camp Joy teams to oversee sharing of space, resources, staff, and equipment.
  • Communicate client specific needs and changes as they arise to all staff.
  • Support staff and their development through a thoughtful staff training and evaluation process.
  • Oversee an intentional camper experience from check-in to check-out. Serve as the main point of contact for all behavior needs.
  • Support camper discipline/mediation processes.
  • Plan, train, and promote camper positive reinforcement practices.
  • Provide as-needed support to program/activity areas and their instructors.
  • Work with the Camp Registrar to accurately track and update the Camp Joy Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
  • Plan, write-up and implement opening campfires, block parties, and Unit Nights.
  • Communicate to all staff client specific programming needs and changes as they arise.
  • Support staff and their development through a thoughtful staff training and evaluation process.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all problem solving.
  • Act as point of contact for parents and contractors.
  • Actively lead staff meetings that occur before and at the end of each week of camp. Actively contribute to the all staff meetings.
  • Support and prepare the end of program slideshows. Reinforce best practices for photo/video collection and organization.
  • Follow and uphold Camp Joy policies/procedures. Act as a role model to other leaders and staff.
  • Plan the End of Summer Celebration with other coordinators and the Camps Director.
  • Perform on-call duties when you are scheduled. Serve as a leader during any camp emergencies.
  • Complete paperwork on-time: incident reports, health screens, course usage forms, etc.

  • Receive camper outcome evaluation of 96% or higher in reference to “campers report having fun at camp.”
